In Doctrine/PDO, how do I fetch sql query column names
It may not be perfect solution, but I go along with the approach mentioned in the question. I create a MySQL view. This allows me to have an db object which is queryable and have exact column names as I want. describe nameOfViewYouJustCreated; gives me exactly what I need. The view is dropped afterwards.

How can I do a query with Count + Distinct+When?
A slightly different approach would be SELECT `Date`, `status`, COUNT(DISTINCT `idControls`) FROM `tableName` GROUP BY `Date`, `status`; Easier query, but two result lines per date instead of one.

How to get tombstone count for a cql query?
For tombstone counts on a query your best bet is to enable tracing. This will give you the in depth history of a query including how many tombstones had to be read to complete it. This won't give you the total tombstone count, but is most likely more relevant for performance tuning. In cqlsh you can enable this with cqlsh> tracing on; Now tracing requests. cqlsh> SELECT * FROM ascii_ks.a
