anchor tag dash on hover

You can use font-size: 0; to solve this. The problem is the white space when nesting tags in inline elements. You're seeing the space between the close of the opening <a> and the beginning of the <img> tag.

Here's an alternate solution, as well:

<a href="#"><!--
  --><img src="myImg.jpg" /><!--

Also, your hover rule for a elements has a text-decoration underline as well. Removing that will preserve the white-space stuff, but not display the underline.

Meanwhile, if you can't change the HTML structure, you can try this : a[href] > a[href="#individualProfile"]{ ... } This targets the first a with an href attribute, then the > select a direct child of it, and then specify the a with the wanted href. anchor tag href not linking with div id
Looks to me like you are doing it backwards. I'm pretty sure that you can only jump to other anchor tags. Try changing the div to an anchor, or put an anchor above it. <a class="chev" href="#yes"> <span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-down"></span> </a> ... .. .. <a id='yes'></a> <div> some content </div>
